6th Grade - Effect of Erosion
6th grade studied the effects of erosion and how to use a gram scale these past few weeks in Science.   They made connections to their Mathematical skills and the importance of accuracy in measurement in their Science lab.  They did a great job!

Egypt Game

Mrs. Ortiz’s 6th grade class read the book the Egypt Game and then created their own Egypt Game, which included taking an Ancient Egyptian issue and acting it out in a play.  They also were to remain in "class" character all day.   The best part of the game was, they created their own costumes and were not allowed to use parental help.  They had to create costumes from things they already had laying around.   It was a fun day in Mrs. Ortiz's class

She will input your information in the system and you will get a welcome email from ManageBac.  After you follow the instructions in that email you will be connected.
Fifth Graders are making Global Connections
Students in the GCC engage with Sarah Morris an executive of Microsoft via Skype in Seattle, Washington.  Sarah spoke to the students about careers in Computer Science and the importance of learning code. This tied in well with the Global Hour of Code our students participated in last week.

CECA Hour of Code
Students at CECA enjoying a worldwide event called Hour of Code. Hour of code is a one-hour introduction designed to explain computer science and show that anybody can learn the basics. Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. See more stats on Code.org

CECA Robotics Teams Advance to Southern California Championships!!!
CECA Robotrons and Lego Grizzlies, two competitive robotics teams here at CECA competed in their Qualifying tournament this past Saturday, Nov 8 in Rialto. Both teams did a tremendous job and came away as Tournament Champions out of 11 teams. Teams had to present to an engineering panel, a research project focusing on a real world teaching method, demonstrate core values, present and explain why and how they built their robot, as well as put their robot through particular missions to demonstrate programming skills. Lego Grizzlies also came home with a trophy for 1st place in Robot Performance for scoring the most points on the table runs. Both teams will be competing at Legoland on Dec 6 and 7. Let's wish them luck.
Team CECA grant to add to the GCC
We are very excited that our TWIOC Foundation and Team CECA have secured a $3500 grant for the purchase of more equipment in the new Global Connections Center.  With wireless connection on the way this month, our students will be able to begin using the GCC very soon.  If you are interested in volunteer hours, we can use your help M-TH during all lunches to help make sure our students have open access to the GCC and the Library.
