La Dia De Los Muertos-Day of the Dead
Bright Beautiful Playful...Halloween?

Honoring a long tradition of artists and coffee shops working together the Queen Bean Cafe and students from CECA (Competitive Edge Charter Academy), are bringing in the holiday with a vibrant display of Day Of The Dead ceramic mask creations.

The traditional bright colors, swirling lines, and symbols that represent a specific loved one shown in the students' sugar skull masks complement the Queen Bean's gallery wall and help to create a festive atmosphere for sitting and enjoying the many treats and beverages this local establishment has to offer.

When approached with the idea of collaborating for the holidays Jen Conroy-owner of the Queen Bean Cafe was happy to have student works to help decorate the Cafe for her favorite holiday.

Mini versions of dancing skeletons in joyful poses are sprinkled in along with the masks. Some wearing colorful gowns like the traditional "Catrina" skeleton icons orignally drawn by Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada.  Featured artists include 8th grade students Francesca Amendola, Megan Beamer, Robert Griffith, Hailey Li, Adam Mancilla, Thorunn McLaughlin, Lindy Mueller, Brayden Reed, Kennedy Salisbury, and Audrey Tholander.  Students were directed by art specialist Laura Stickney.

La Dia De Los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead holiday is observed from Oct. 31-Nov.2nd.

Over 1000 people enjoyed Founders Fall Festival
The fourth annual Founders Fall Festival was Saturday October 4, 2014.  Live music, entertainment and unlimited game booths were greatly enjoyed.  This year our food vendors were Asaderos, AJ Barille's Chicago Pizza, Oak House, and the Alford's Burger Monster Grilling Machine!  Dessert was served up by Bonnert's Pies.  The TEAM CECA Coffee Bar was a big hit and our PYP Spanish classes along with the CESingers provided evidence of their language acquisition and performing arts talents.  Thank you to the Festival Committee and all of the parents who worked to make it another great CECA Family event!
Holiday Musical Events added to the Calendar
This year we will be splitting the holiday musical events by grade levels.  Kindergarten through Second grades will have their event on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.  The Third through Fifth grade musical event will be on Thursday, December 18, 2014.  Both events will be at 6:30PM and both will be held in the Multipupose Room at Yucaipa High School.  Please mark your calendar and join us as we celebrate the season with music!

Team CECA grant to add to the GCC
We are very excited that our TWIOC Foundation and Team CECA have secured a $3500 grant for the purchase of more equipment in the new Global Connections Center.  With wireless connection on the way this month, our students will be able to begin using the GCC very soon.  If you are interested in volunteer hours, we can use your help M-TH during all lunches to help make sure our students have open access to the GCC and the Library.
We Are Joining the Fight against ALS!
The challenge?  Raise $675 or the equivalent of $1/CECA student and see Mr. Litel endure the Ice Bucket!  If we get $2/CECA student Ms. Lopez is willing to suffer the same indignity!  Good Luck CECA!
